Understanding formation and patterns of residuals following boreal forest fires

Advances in remote sensing and GIS techniques make the use of satellite imagery and aerial photography effective tools in mapping, characterizing, and studying forest fire residuals.  Using these tools, we attempt to understand the variability of post-fire residuals and their causal mechanisms.  This knowledge is useful developing forest policies and management practices that emulate natural disturbances. Collaborators in this project include Dr. T. Remmel of York University. See publications for more details.
